Trail of the Eagles' Nests

Trail of the Eagles' Nests

A full-day journey past a chain of medieval castles perched on dramatic limestone cliffs — one of Poland's most scenic historical routes.

Trail of the Eagles Nests
About This Tour

The Trail of the Eagles' Nests is one of Poland's most dramatic and historically rich routes — a chain of 25 medieval castles and strongholds built by King Casimir III the Great in the 14th century to defend the southern border of the Polish Kingdom. The castles were strategically placed atop the white limestone rocks and cliffs of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, earning them the name "Eagles' Nests."

Our private full-day tour takes you north of Kraków to explore the most spectacular fortresses along the trail. You'll walk through the atmospheric ruins of Olsztyn Castle, visit the perfectly preserved Renaissance castle at Pieskowa Skała perched on a cliff above the Prądnik Valley, and explore the unique limestone landscape of Ojców National Park — Poland's smallest national park and one of its most beautiful.

Tour Highlights
  • Pieskowa Skała Castle — a magnificent Renaissance palace rising from a limestone cliff above the Prądnik River gorge
  • Ojców National Park — dramatic gorges, caves, limestone pillars and pristine river valley
  • Ruins of Olsztyn Castle perched dramatically atop a rocky hilltop — one of the most evocative sites on the entire trail
  • The iconic "Hercules' Club" limestone pillar — one of Poland's most photographed natural formations
  • Fascinating medieval history brought to life by your English-speaking guide
